| Rabbi
Neal Borovitz has been the Rabbi of Temple Avodat Shalom since August of
1988. He previously served as Hillel Rabbi and Instructor in Biblical
and Religious Studies at the University of Texas in Austin (1975-82),
and as the Rabbi of Union Temple, Brooklyn, New York (1983-88).
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he earned a B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1970, an M.A. from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) in 1973 and was ordained at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in June 1975. In March of 2000, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from HUC-JIR. Rabbi Borovitz is an active leader in community affairs. He is a past President of the Bergen County Board of Rabbis, the founding chairman of both the Jewish Learning Project of Bergen County and the Jewish Community Teen Program. Currently he serves as Chairman of the Inter-group Relations Committee of the Jewish Community Relations Council, as a member of the Board of UJA-Federation of Bergen and North Hudson Counties, the Brotherhood Sisterhood Interfaith Committee of Bergen County and the Inter-religious Fellowship for the Homeless. Rabbi Borovitz and his wife, Ann Appelbaum, are the proud parents of Abby and Jeremy. |
